Drack Lab is proud to announce lab member Ella Gehrke recently matched in Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa. Ella will graduate from the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine this spring. During her time in the Drack Lab, Ella has presented at ARVO and contributed to multiple publications. Drack Lab would like to congratulate lab member Angela Mahoney on a successful first presentation at an international meeting. Angela worked in the Drack Lab before being admitted to Carver College of Medicine. As a medical student, she has continued her work as part of the research distinction track. Recently, she presented research on vision and albinism titled "Will my child drive? What to tell parents of children with albinism." at the AAPOS meeting in Phoenix, AZ. We are proud of her and look forward to her future accomplishments!

Megan will graduate from the University of Illinois School of Medicine this spring. While working in the Drack lab, Megan won the Student Employee of the Year Award. SARS-Cov-2-- a novel coronavirus first reported in 2019 that causes COVID-19 in patients-- is known to primarily affect the respiratory system. However, studies have shown that COVID-19 can affect the eye as well.

Dr. Drack was an invited Keynote Speaker at the recent Advances in Pediatric Retina meeting held in Salt Lake City, Utah. She spoke about gene therapy for genetic retinal disorders and the diagnosis and care of patients with albinism and inherited retinal degenerations.
